Overview

The Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs stands as the social protection and advocacy arm of the Government of St. Kitts- Nevis, supporting and safeguarding the human rights and welfare of all persons, including vulnerable groups such as the elderly, disabled, indigent, and youth in conflict with the law.  

To accomplish this, eight (8) distinct units/departments have been established:

• Administration – Office of the Permanent Secretary

• Community Development and social services

• Counselling Unit

• Gender Affairs

• New Horizons Rehabilitation Centre

• policy, planning and projects unit

• Probation and Child Protection Services

The main offices of the Ministry are located at Victoria Road.  The Administration Building (green building) houses the following Departments:  Administration

• Finance
• Gender Affairs
• Probation & Child Care Services
• Policy, Planning and Projects Unit

The Department of Community Development & Social Services  is based in the northwards adjacent compound at Victoria Road, a mere minute away.

Counselling services for all age groups can be accessed at the Counselling Unit, which is located at Wades Garden, Basseterre.

The address of the New Horizons Rehabilitation Centre is at Saddler’s Village, St. Kitts, approximately thirty (30) minutes’ drive from the main offices.

Ministerial oversight is provided by the Honourable Eugene Hamilton, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender Affairs & Social Services.
